Meet Gertrude
Gertrude is a one-year-old female dwarf hamster who came into our care because her owners no longer had the time to care for her. She is very active and loves to burrow in her bedding. However, she would not be a good fit for young children as she is a bit nippy.
Hamsters are playful and sociable, range in size from 2 to 7 inches and live for one-and-a-half to two years. They have loads of energy, love exercise wheels and run the equivalent of 20 miles a day. Hamsters are nocturnal and have better hearing than eyesight. Be careful waking them up— they have a tendency to startle easily.
Hamsters are extremely active pets; that’s why it’s important they have access to an exercise wheel. They’re nocturnal, you may hear some nighttime noises — it could be the sound of your hamsters hitting the gym.
Small animals are happiest when they have their cage cleaned every week and interactive socialization time with their person at least 20 mins. twice daily. If you would like to adopt a guinea pig, rabbit or other small critter, please fill out our adoption application on this page: http://www.medfieldshelter.com/adoption-forms
