James Pond & Swim Shady Fish Goldfish Sachse, TX

James Pond and Swim Shady were surrendered to us on 9/10/22.

They are common goldfish. The small feeder goldfish you see hundreds of in the tanks at pet stores? That's these guys. James Pond is the larger golden color fish who is estimated to be about 4 years old and Swim Shady is the smaller white fish who is about 3 years old. They are very good boys who love their frozen food and have recently started approaching the glass when we walk by.

Adopters should be very mindful of the size goldfish can reach. These two boys are currently in a 40 gallon breeder aquarium. They will need a tank at least as big, ideally larger, as they will continue to grow, or a pond for their new home. James Pond is about 5 inches in length currently and Swim Shady is only slightly smaller.


Common or Comet goldfish can live 10-15 years and reach lengths up to 10 inches. As far as tankmates, they do have a dojo loach that lives with them named Roomba and they all get along well. Roomba is content to wiggle among the rocks for food while James and Swim Shady pretty much mind their own business. They have had large mystery snails before as well. But between the goldfish and Roomba there just wasn't enough space or food for everyone and we moved the snails to other tanks. They were curious about the snails, of course, but mostly left them alone.

All fish at Small Pet Safe House are quarantined for a minimum of 30 days. As a precaution they are treated with ParaGuard and Metroplex to ensure they are free of infections and parasites and aquarium salt is added to their water. We have seen no indication of illness or parasites in either of them, their energy levels are very good, and they have very healthy appetites.

We do ship some of our fish, but not all. Swim Shady and James Pond are available to ship. Roomba is a permanent resident of the rescue and helps with housekeeping. The adoption fee for both James Pond and Swim Shady is $20.
