Meet Marvelous Marge

Large Marge has entered the building (and I’m not sure if she will ever leave ?)

As soon as I heard this poor girl’s story- I immediately knew she belonged at Small n Furry Rescue. Thanks to our friend and supporter Jenn who volunteered to take the trip to pick her up and bring her to me! It was a huge help!

Marvelous Marge was confiscated from a neglect situation with several other rabbits. She was reported to be in a rough state, severely matted and had horrific sores on her feet. She has a tattoo in her ear, which makes me think she was probably bred by a rabbity for her fur or for breeding. Thanks to the wonderful team at Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge who got her cleaned up and spayed, she is now on the road to recovery.

She’s still a bit rough looking, and definitely needs a bit more grooming done, which I will work on once she gets settled in this weekend. Her calm demeanor is already showing and she immediately started to relax in her new setup (temporary housing- she will get a bigger pen once her feet heal up a bit more). She has severe sore hocks, which the shelter has been treating. I am going to be ordering her special socks to help with extra padding, and using a few remedies that I have found that work very well.

Marvelous Marge will not be available for adoption for some time until we can ensure she is over some of her more significant health issues. She’s an older lady and deserves the best. I’ve always had a special spot in my heart for giant angoras- my first rabbit as an adult was a gentle giant angora named Gus. He came to college with me and was my companion for several years. We’ll see how Marge settles in, she may end up a permanent resident ;)

If you’d like to send Marge some socks or padding for her sore feet, I’ve added some to our Amazon wishlist. We have 6 rabbits and 2 chinchillas at the rescue right now and are going through a TON of Timothy hay, which can also be sent via the wishlist.

As always, thank you for your
support!

Update 12/2024

Some quick updates on the rescue’s current medical cases-

Marvelous Marge is doing well… marvelous! This rabbit is such a brave, gentle lady and has made so many improvements since arriving at the rescue. Thanks to everyone who donated socks and joint supplements her mobility is drastically improved. She was upgraded to a larger pen enclosure and is loving the extra room. Her wool is growing in very nicely and she is great for grooming. Although I selfishly would love to keep this sweet girl myself, I know her forever home is out there somewhere! Large Marge is a BIG lady, tipping the scale (literally she tipped over the scale I have) at around 12 lbs, she could still use to gain a little more weight (which we are working on now that she is building up her muscle again!). This calm lady would do great in any household that has rabbit experience and is comfortable with her grooming needs.
