Meet Charlie
Charlie Male Lab/Hound X, 3 years old,60 lbs.
Charlie and his almost identical brother Riley came to us with their muzzles covered in porcupine quills. In Charlie’s case there were also quills in his mouth.
We call them mystery dogs as no one has ever claimed them and we are not at all sure what mix of breeds may be in them. Pointer has been suggested. They are certainly very beautiful dogs Charlie’ foster mother describes him best.
She says:
“Charlie is beautiful, happy, friendly, gentle, affectionate, and completely housebroken. He is fairly laid back and spends much of the day lying on a rug or on the ground near you. He loves to go for a walk off-leash around the island, walking right behind you. (Lucky Charlie, her cottage is on a small island.) He has no interest in swimming.
Charlie gets along with other dogs and would do well in a home with other dogs or with his brother to play with and keep him entertained. He comes when called and will go right into his crate if you toss a couple pieces of kibble in first.
Charlie’s bad habits are,
One: carrying off rags, gloves, a box of bolts, a spray bottle, etc.
He doesn’t chew them, he just takes them outside and leaves them! He has a very soft mouth.
Two: counter cruising; he can easily reach anything on the counter or in the sink so I keep the bread in the microwave.
Three: Charlie frequently insists on standing with his front paws in my lap trying to give kisses, and he tries to mouth my hand and my sleeve or pants cuff. As he may unintentionally nip a bit if skin, he probably shouldn’t be with very small children but he would probably be very good with grade school aged kids.
Charlie will be a wonderful, loving pet for an individual or family who has some experience with large dogs and the willingness to work on basic obedience training.”
Interestingly, Brother Riley has the same habit of finding things and carrying them around…but not chewing them.
We are asking an adoption fee of $350 for Charlie. He has been neutered, had worming medicine and his vaccinations are up to date. He is fully recovered from surgery to remove the quills.
