Shane Jack Russell Terrier & Dachshund Mix New York, NY

We're searching for a family for an adorable Jack Russell/Dachshund mix, Shane. Shane is 4.5 years old, 20 lbs, and he's one great looking, totally unique little guy with a lovely golden coat! He's healthy, neutered, and house trained.

Shane is very affectionate to his family but he takes time to warm up to new people. He has some behavioral challenges. Because of insecurities he bonds quickly to a new person and then he "guards" that person. Sadly this has caused people to abandon him in the past. Shane has gotten a lot of training since we've had him in foster, and we need to find a family who is willing to continue this training. He's made great progress. We love him and we think he's worth the effort, and we are looking forward to seeing him in a permanent home where he can feel secure and truly make progress.

He's being fostered in Manhattan. Shane does well with other dogs and can definitely go to a home with a dog buddy. Shane lived with older kids as a puppy but for now we think an adult-only home is probably best.
