Meet Myia

ADOPTED 2/3/17!!!

When people see Myia, they all have the same reaction, “What a spectacularly beautiful dog!” And “Oh, she’s so sweet!” Looking into her warm brown eyes and at the gorgeous red coat she wears, their reaction is not surprising. We believe Myia may be more of a small Irish Setter with a touch of the beloved Golden personality. She is truly a Golden-hearted dog.

Pretty and petite Myia was picked up as a stray in Ocean Springs, MS. Her owners were located but they no longer wanted Myia because she had outgrown that cute, irresistible puppy stage and had become a dog. Abandoned by her family and left to an unknown fate, Myia was terribly frightened and confused about why she was in the shelter. Upon hearing about Myia's plight, one of our volunteers rushed over to the shelter to begin her "rescue."

Beautiful Myia was transported to the northeast, was adopted, and lived happily with her dad and canine brother for about 6 months. Unexpected changes in her dad's life caused him to be away from home for long hours. Tearfully, he asked us to find Myia a home that was more suitable to her active needs. Myia had been living in NJ with a lovely foster family with several doggy siblings since early November. There were several scuffles with 2 of the small dogs in the home as Myia protected her food from them. Thinking back to her past, it is not surprising that Myia, who was so thin and neglected when we met her, does not want to share her dinner. We consulted Eddie Simon, a canine behaviorist who has helped several Sunshine dogs, and we were advised that Myia’s happiest home will be as an only pet where she can blossom without competition, with an experienced and confident adopter. She is so loving and appreciative of attention, we know Myia will easily transition to a forever home where she can receive reassurance and guidance. We encourage her new family to use a trainer to help Myia bond and become the best girl she can be. In fact, trainer Eddie Simon has kindly offered to work with any adopter within the Danbury, CT area to help Myia adapt to her new home.

Her former fosters shared, "She is the prettiest, most regal dog I have ever seen. She is a sweet girl who loves a lot of attention and belly rubs. She also loves cuddling up in a little ball either on her bed or yours! She is smart but a bit stubborn so she really needs strong leadership and structure. Her most favorite thing to do is going for long walks several times a day. She does very well with a backpack on and a gentle leader. She also loves to run in the yard and chase the birds, squirrels and rabbits. She plays nicely with the big dogs, but does not realize her own strength when playing with small dogs. She is awesome in her crate whenever needed, but she is completely house-broken and trustworthy in the home. Riding in the car has improved tremendously and she likes going for rides. She does like to be a front-seat co-pilot so a car harness is recommended. She knows sit, down and wait and will do anything for a treat. She is very motivated by food. She loved my husband and followed him everywhere. He brought her with him all the time and she enjoyed it. She is really a wonderful dog that deserves a happy life!"

This stunning red-head is believed to be approximately 3 years old. Myia weighs about 55 lbs and is heartworm negative. She has been spayed, brought UTD on vaccinations, and micro-chipped. She has been with children, ages 5-7, and enjoys running and playing fetch with them. Myia also loves to run and play with other dogs and meets new doggie friends easily while on walks outside. Although we will seek a home for Myia where she is the only pet in the home, opportunities for doggie play-dates would be welcome. She is very good at coming when called, both inside and out, and is a true cuddle-bug! Myia is an active dog who requires an active adopter, although she settles nicely inside the home. She is a vivacious girl who would make a wonderful companion for walks, runs, or hikes.

One of Sunshine’s volunteers recently got to spend some time with Myia and remarked, “Myia is one of the most striking dogs I have ever seen. She has a gorgeous red coat and she just wants a person to call her own. She was very friendly to the people and the other dogs we met. She does believe she should be riding in the passenger seat of the car, but we came to a compromise where she stood on my console with her head on my shoulder. During our outing, Myia had her very first ice cream cone! Once she figured out you could eat it, I had to remind her to take smaller bites.” Be sure to check out her VIDEO!

Myia is very intelligent, loving, loyal, and beautiful! If you are interested in giving Myia the guidance and structure she needs to be her happiest, you will be rewarded with an amazing, spirited dog companion.

About Our Rescue
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters will be required to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may indicate that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are frequently getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and complete the application process so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on the observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters, and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will behave and adapt in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed on the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring their SGRR dog to a vet within 7 business days. All dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. However, if an adopter's vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog may be returned and a full refund would be provided.

Most of our dogs are fostered in private homes. We do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! To this end, the rescue retains an interest in each dog and our dogs can never be surrendered, re-homed, or sold. Should an adopter no longer be able to keep their SGRR dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer providing proper care. Adopters agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical care and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
