Meet PIPER MAY
Nothing is more exhilarating to me when we rescue a cat with a microchip ID number. On the same note, nothing is more frustrating to me when I learn that the owner of the cat can be identified but not contacted because they abandoned the poor critter and skipped out!! UGH - what is WRONG with people?
So goes the story of pretty little Piper May (her given name on her microchip info) wandered into the driveway of Matt Meaney's while he was out working on his car. Since he is an avid cat lover, and volunteer Stephanie's husband, he scooped the cat right on up (she was starving and filthy) and get his wife involved. The next day (March 9th, 2010) Steph brought her in for me to check over, and I followed through when I found the chip, gave her the info, and she went so far as to leave a note on the owner's door, as the phone number given had been disconnected.
I went about my rescue business, treating her like a stray until proven otherwise, and Steph went about trying to locate the owner; the house itself looked abandoned and the mail and garbage were piling up, so we weren't holding out much hope (and at this point, we really though Piper was probably better off with us). About 5 days after the fact, Steph finally came across an old roommate who was retrieving her belonging's from the house, soon to be foreclosed on. She let us know that the deadbeat owner had indeed skipped town (the state actually) and must have thrown the poor kitty outside, but who knew when, as she had moved out months before.
Now Steph and I were mad as hatters, but since we now knew that Piper didn't belong to anyone who would care for her as promised, I happily made her a Crash Cat! Born on December 22nd of 2008 (her Kent County Humane Society paper's were tracked down and pertinent information was verified), this sweetheart loves nothing more than to snuggle and eat, eat and snuggle! I think she is making up for lost time out on the cold streets myself:) She is learning to get along with the other kitties, and at this point tolerates them, though I am convinced she thinks she should be the 'belle of the ball' at all time. She is as gorgeous as they come, and would certainly be ready to be welcomed into a home with lots of affection to give.
Please help us find Piper May the purr-manent home she so rightly deserves! A big thank you to Matt and Steph for your rescue efforts- you went above and beyond!
