Kitsap Humane Society
Our Mission
Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) is a nonprofit charitable organization that depends upon the kindness and generosity of the community we serve in order to continue to care for companion animals in need. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, consisting of local community and business leaders. We have been caring for animals in need since 1908 and envision a time when all adoptable pets have loving homes. We work toward this goal seven days a week through immediate care and sheltering of thousands of companion animals who are homeless, lost, ill and in need of an advocate. We affect the number of unwanted animals by spaying and neutering all dogs and cats who are adopted from our shelter.
Adoption Policy
Our Adoption Process
Kitsap Humane Society uses a walk-up and queue-based first-come, first-served adoption system.
To ensure the continued safety and well-being of staff members, volunteers, and the community, masks and social distancing are required on KHS property.
View our Available Pets page and select a few that you would like to meet. Then download an Adoption Application and fill it out prior to visiting our shelter. Our adoption process is a walk-up and queue-based, first-come, first-served system. You will have a meet and greet with an Adoption Counselor to discuss your application, review information on the pets you would like to meet, and you will be introduced to the pet(s).If the Meet and Greet is a success, staff will complete your adoption paperwork to make it official! If your new family member is already spayed/neutered, they will go home with you right away!
For more detailed information and instructions, please visit our How to Adopt page here: https://www.kitsap-humane.org/adopt/how-to-adopt/
For all adult dogs (age 6 months and up) all members of the household, as well as any other adult dogs in the home, are required to come in and meet the dog before the adoption may be approved.
For the most up-to-date information on our adoptable pets, please visit our available pets page on our website: https://www.kitsap-humane.org/adopt/available-pets/
We are open for adoptions every Wednesday through Sunday from 12pm to 4pm.

More About Our Shelter
Kitsap Humane Society is a private, nonprofit animal shelter. We rescue and rehome over 6000 pets each year. All dogs and cats leave here spayed or neutered and with complete vaccines and a microchip. We have been caring for animals in need since 1908 and envision a time when all adoptable pets have loving homes.
We are extremely proud of our exceptionally high “lives saved” rate of over 96%. Through our active adoption, behavior, foster, transfer, and veterinary programs, we are able to rehome every adoptable animal that enters our facility. No animal is ever euthanized for lack of space.
In addition to caring for and adopting animals, we also provide spay/neuter services to low income residents of Kitsap County, and provide Animal Rescue and Enforcement services to our surrounding municipalities.
