Our Mission
We strive to find these loving animal's their forever homes. Please consider taking a peek at our animals when you are ready to add a new furry friend to your family! We would love to hear from you if you have any questions about our animals or what we do as the Powhatan Sheriff's Office Animal Control Division. We do recommend calling ahead and letting us know when you would like to come, but if you come in between 9am and 4pm, that will be perfectly fine! We look forward to meeting you and helping you find the perfect fit for your family.
Adoption Policy
Apon having interest in adopting an animal from our shelter, you can call or come between 9am and 4pm to meet the animal you are interested in. If after meeting said animal, you are still interested, you will begin the application process. You will be asked to fill out an application and we will need a copy of a valid driver's license or ID. If you have other dogs, they will need to come in to do a meet and greet. We recommend bringing your dog(s) after you have come by yourself to meet the animal. The staff here at the shelter will review your application and you will either be approved or not approved. If approved, you will be able to come and pick up your new family member! If you have other dogs, we recommend coming to pick up your new pet alone, without your other animals.
