Our Mission
Mont Belvieu Animal Services is a city department tasked with enforcing the city's animal ordinances and working to eliminate animal-related problems within the city. Unclaimed or otherwise unowned animals are available for adoption at Mont Belvieu Animal Shelter, located at 3831 Perry Ave.
Adoption Policy
We want to be sure that the animals in our care find loving forever homes. Therefore, we ask that those wanting to adopt a pet from our shelter adhere to the following guidelines:
-Be 18 years of age or older
-Present a current government photo ID
-Provide the animal with proper care, including appropriate food, water, shelter, and medical care
-Never use or treat the animal in a cruel or inhumane manner
-Abide by all state, county, and local laws and ordinances regarding animals
-Agree that the City of Mont Belvieu is not responsible for any costs that this animal may incur after the time of adoption, including but not limited to veterinarian bills, supply costs, and property damage
-Understand that the medical history or status of any adoptable pet at Mont Belvieu Animal Shelter cannot be guaranteed, and that any medical issues that arise after the point of adoption are not the responsibility of the City of Mont Belvieu
-Provide proof of rabies vaccination for the adopted animal, if it has not already been completed, within seven (7) days of adoption if over the age of four (4) months
-Provide proof of sterilization for the adopted animal, if it has not already been completed, within thirty (30) days of adoption
-Understand that adopted animals may be returned within 7 days of their adoption date, should the adoption be unsuccessful. Understand that in the event of a return of the adopted animal, adoption fees are non-refundable.
-Also understand that if a return of the animal is attempted after the return period of 7 days, the animal will be processed as an owner surrender and acceptance of owner surrenders is subject to available kennel space. A fee will apply to all accepted owner surrenders.
-Submit payment for the adoption fee (adoption fees vary from $10-$50 except Seniors for Seniors program)
-Seniors for Seniors: Adopters age 65+ can adopt any pet age 7+ for free
To adopt from MBAS:
1. Visit the shelter to find a pet
2. Spend time with the pet to make sure he/she is a good fit
3. Sign adoption contract and pay the applicable adoption fee
4. Take your new family member home!
Additional info about our adoption process:
-We do not require an application to adopt! However, adopters are required to meet with pets at the shelter to ensure they are a good fit. Our staff will always strive to make the best possible matches between pets and adopters!
-All adoptions are on a first come, first served basis. We do not hold pets for adoption or pickup at a later time.
-We do not transport or ship pets. All adoptions must take place in person at the shelter.
