Adoption Policy
For any potential adopter, we ask for them to fill out our adoption application as the first step. Our adoption application includes asking for all information about the members of household, any pets currently in the home, previous pets, current and previous veterinarian information, and 3 non related references. We also include a contract in the application that states the potential adopter agrees to not declaw any cat or kitten they adopt from us. After receiving the application, one of our volunteers calls the vet and reference and landlord (if renting) to verify all information. We then set up a time to talk with the potential adopter over the phone, find out more of what they are looking for, and set up a time to do a home visit. When all of those steps are completed, we review any potential cat or kitten that we have available that would be a good fit for the adopter, and set up a meet and greet. We also have a policy that we do not adopt any kittens under the age of 6 months to any potential adopter as a single kitten, unless their is another cat currently in the home. If a potential adopter does not have any current cats and would like to adopt a kitten under the age of 6months, we require that they adopt a pair of kittens, which we offer a discounted adoption fee for. After the adopter chooses the cat or kitten(s) they like, they are then required to sign our adoption contract. We also go over tips and provide handouts for bringing home a new pet, and how to introduce any current pets to the new pet. We then make sure to follow up with the adopter after the first night and again 1 week after adoption to make sure things are going smoothly.
