Helpless Hounds Dog Rescue
Our Mission
Helpless Hounds is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill, breed-specific hound dog rescue organization in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We are dedicated to helping hounds who are left homeless for whatever reason – in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, hounds given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect. We place our hounds in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a hound dog into their homes and lives. Hounds in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist hound dogs in distress without regard to age, or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, hounds in the greatest need take priority. We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the hound dog beyond the adoption process. Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless hounds.
Adoption Policy
For a complete list of our adoption criteria, please visit: https://www.helplesshounds.com/faqs
NOTE: You must complete and submit an application and be approved to adopt prior to being able to meet the dog. We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always try to select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs and try to find the best match for both dog and human.
We leave a dog’s profile online until either it has been adopted, or has received several applications.
We are a non-profit organization that spends our adoption fees and donations on vaccinations, surgeries, various medical tests, medicines, food and supplies needed by our dogs. Our fees do not cover the overall expenses incurred by the care of our dogs, but they do help defray the costs involved. We thank you for your support.
