Ohio Shorthair Rescue, Inc.
Our Mission
Ohio Shorthair Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to placing rescued German Shorthaired Pointers in Ohio and parts of Indiana and Kentucky into new homes. We are funded by donations, fundraisers, and adoption fees, every cent of which is used to pay for the care of the GSPs in rescue.
Every GSP in our care is examined by a veterinarian upon intake, usually within 24-48 hours of entering rescue. They are tested for heartworms and intestinal parasites, brought up to date on all vaccines, microchipped and spayed/neutered. Because many of our dogs were strays, they sometimes come to us with other medical needs – infections, cuts/scrapes, injuries, etc. – that need attention as well, and we make sure that they receive whatever they need.
Our carefully screened foster homes provide indoor, loving, nurturing homes for the GPSs in rescue until their forever homes are found. We are always in need of good foster homes with GSP experience. Because we do

We take a variety of things into consideration when placing a dog: previous GSP experience, activity level, work schedule, planned activities with the dog, etc. Our main concern in any placement is finding the best home for each dog’s individual needs.
After the adoption, we are committed to supporting each adopter and dog. Adopters are encouraged to keep in contact with us. We love to receive updates and photos of dogs we have adopted out. We are also always willing to help with any possible issues that may arise in the future. Because we have placed so many dogs, there is a good
