Humane Society of Wayne County
Our Mission
The mission of the Wayne County Humane Society Animal Shelter is to provide a humane facility to shelter, feed and care for lost, unwanted and abused animals of Wayne County, New York and to provide a facility for humane education to citizens of Wayne County.
NYS Registration No.: RR163
Adoption Policy
Our adoption process entails first meeting the animal while speaking with an adoption counselor. Then an application needs to be filled out. In some cases, there is a 24 hour waiting period. In certain circumstances the animal can go home that day. Once you are approved, you will receive a free health exam at your vet, packet of adoption materials and starter bag of Science Diet food.
Adoption costs include rabies shots, distemper, heartworm or feline leukemia tests, flea treatment, heartworm preventative, and any other medication needed during the animal's stay at the shelter.
Please ask about our Adult Companion program. This program is for people over 50 years of age and animals over 3 years of age. The adoption fee is waived.
Adoption applications are processed daily – if you are interested in meeting/adopting a specific dog or cat featured on our website or Facebook page, please feel free to contact the Shelter by phone to verify current adoption status.
