Avery Humane Society
Our Mission
Our Mission
Our goal is to help our community respond humanely to the needs of animals. The Society provides a shelter for cats and dogs that are lost, abandoned or unwanted, sponsors rabies clinics, offers access to low-cost spay/neuter services, and partners with the local prison in the New Leash On Life obedience training program.
Our website is networked with adoption programs across the country, and we have had folks come from as far away as Alabama, Michigan, California, and Canada to adopt from the Avery Shelter. Every year we adopt more animals than the year before.
Avery Humane Society is a "No Kill" shelter which means we do not have an open door policy. Intakes for animals are done by appointment when space is available. The only shelter in Avery County, our facility is at capacity 100% of the time.
Adoption Policy
Our adoption system is rather simple. We want to help you find the perfect pet.
a. The adoption fee for puppies under the age of 6 months is $150 or $250 for two.
b. The adoption fee for one cat/kitten is $85 or $125 for two. $195 for three.
c. All other dogs over 6 months that are already spayed/neutered is one for $85 or $150 for two.
d. If dogs 6 months of age and older and cats are not already spay/neutered and they are taking them home they can do so by giving Avery Humane Society a refundable $150 deposit for each unfixed. They are refunded for dog/cat spay/neuter if it is fixed within 6 weeks of the adoption. For kittens if the surgery is completed at or before 4 months of age they get their deposit refunded. The deposit will be refunded to them on the day they pick the animal up from our clinic.
Some cats and dogs may have special pricing because of age or situation.
