Burke County Animal Services
Our Mission
On August 5, 2019, Burke County Animal Services became its own department under the County Manager, separate from Animal Control. Animal Control is still operated under the Burke County Sheriff’s Department and Morganton Public Safety.
We are the county-operated and tax-funded Animal Services Center for Burke County, North Carolina. We receive all stray animals brought in by Animal Control. Our goal is to reunite these animals with their owners. For animals who are not returned to their owners, we aim to have all adoptable animals placed into suitable homes or transferred to rescue groups where they may be adopted.
Adoption Policy
We try to keep our online pages up to date with pictures and descriptions of our adoptable animals. However, the best way to view all current adoptable animals is to come and visit our facility in person!
Potential adopters will be able to meet and interact with adoptable animals at our facility. If a potential adopter finds an animal they are interested in, we have a short in-person adoption agreement to fill out.
Our adoption fee for dogs & puppies is $40, cats & kittens are $20, and includes a mandatory spay/neuter and rabies vaccine, preventative vaccines, dewormer, and flea/tick preventative. All animals must be spayed/neutered and rabies vaccinated before being adopted. Those who are not are eligible for "Foster-to-Adopt/Pre-Adoption," and will be able to be officially adopted once altered.
All adoptions are first come, first served. The adoption fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
