Red Barn Rescue
Our Mission
Red Barn Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit, volunteer-supported dog rescue organization serving Clayton NC, Johnston County and the surrounding area. We are principally dedicated to rescuing adoptable dogs who are at high risk for euthanasia in public animal shelters. On a case-by-case basis, we also take in stray dogs and those surrendered to us due to the hardships of their families who can no longer care for them (in order to keep them from being surrendered to the shelter, where they would be at risk for euthanasia).
Dogs in the care of Red Barn Rescue are spayed or neutered (when age-appropriate), receive all appropriate vaccinations, veterinary care and treatment (including heartworm treatment, if needed), and are kept current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. As finances allow, we occasionally are able to provide financial assistance to private parties by funding spay/neuter services to prevent overpopulation.
We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption application review process that includes contacting veterinary references of the applicant. We pride ourselves on taking considerable care in finding the best match of the approved applicants and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of associated with adopting a dog.
Our rescue remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process. Any dog adopted through our rescue that turns out not to be a good match or for whatever reason cannot stay in their adopted home, is welcomed back into the rescue.
We are determined to keep administrative expenses low so that every dollar taken in through adoption proceeds and donations goes directly to the care of the dogs. Our volunteers work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for those still waiting for homes by fostering, dog-walking and cleaning, providing recreation and training time for the dogs in our care.
Finally, we strive to work with animal shelters and other rescue organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets, to lower euthanasia rates in area shelters and to reduce the pet population by promoting spay/neuter services.
Adoption Policy
Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all age appropriate vaccines and Rabies vaccine, are heartworm tested, and kept on heartworm preventative and flea and tick preventative. Sometimes dental work, surgeries, heartworm treatments, and other procedures are performed.
We require potential adopters to fill out an adoption application and be approved prior to meeting the dog. In order to be considered people must list current pets in home, and pets must be up to date on vaccines, heartworm prevention and altered. Part of our adoption process may include a home visit.
Once approved, we will schedule an appointment for you to bring your dog, family, etc. to meet the dog of interest. Adopters are expected to cover future vet visits and keep pets up to date on heartworm/flea preventatives, and vaccines.
If you are looking for a particular type or breed of dog, please fill out an application and let us know what you hope to adopt.
Our adoption fee reflects what we invest to get dogs healthy and ready for adoption. We require that our rescue receives the dog back if you can no longer care for it.
