Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue, Inc.
Our Mission
All-Volunteer Group
Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is an all-volunteer group and our mission is the rescue and placement of Weimaraners in the Great Lakes Region. We work with networks of shelters in several states as well as with owners needing to relinquish their dog. We are determined bunch of people, but we couldn’t do anything without your support.
Dogs Come First
We’ve stopped counting the hours of sleep lost with sick dogs and the miles driven to spring others from shelters. The volunteers of GLWR sacrifice daily to give each dog a chance to enjoy a good life. Your generous assistance with driving, gas cards, phone work, fundraising and dog care makes it possible for us to come to the aid of hundreds of dogs.
No-Kill Philosophy
GLWR adheres to a no-kill philosophy, and we will never euthanize a dog to make space for another. The waiting list for Weims in need never ends and we do all we can to take dogs in
Adoption Policy
Adoption Application Request
 Interested in adopting?
GLWR is committed to giving rescue dogs the best chance at a wonderful life. Â To that end, we ask you to know these things:
1.  The application process is not instantaneous.  We are all volunteers and we move things along as quickly as possible.  We need to get to know you through the application process; just like we get to know the dogs through our intake process.  It is in the best interest of all involved that this be done correctly.
2.  We do not hold dogs.  Approved adopters have their choice of appropriate dogs for their situation.  If you see a dog on the website that you would like, we cannot guarantee that that dog will still be available once your application is approved.
3.  Note to Families with children:   Weimaraners are large, energetic dogs who need a ton of daily exercise. They can be great family dogs, but will think nothing of knocking down toddlers to get to the door, or snatch cookies from their hands.
