The Grateful Dog Animal Rescue
Our Mission
The Grateful Dog Rescue is a non-profit, all volunteer dog rescue dedicated to saving the lives of dogs left in high kill shelters, and local surrenders of owners who no longer want their dogs. We mainly pull southern dogs who are at risk for euthanasia. We believe every shelter dog deserves a chance to be Grateful, and though we can't save them all, we do everything we can to make a dent in getting homeless dogs off of the streets and out of the shelter.
Important Note for Adopters:
While our rescue organization is based in and licensed out of Portland, Maine we are proud to serve a wider community as we have grown an have foster homes throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Connecticut. As such, we encourage potential adopters to be open to traveling up to 3 hours in each direction from Portland to meet and greet with their prospective furry family members.
We appreciate your understanding and willingness to help us find loving homes for our rescue animals. Thank you for considering adoption and giving a pet a second chance at happiness!

It is our mission to not only save dogs from poor shelter conditions, euthanasia, and homelessness down south, but to make sure that our dogs never have to face that fate again.
We have a careful screening process that consists of reference checks, a veterinary referral, and a home visit ensuring that our furry friends stay in their forever homes for good. Our adoption fee ranges from $400-575 which includes spay/neuter, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, deworming and a microchip.Â
Adopters must be 20 years of age or older.
