Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society
Our Mission
To improve the lives of all cats and provide support and education for the people who care about them.
About Us:
MRFRS was founded in 1992 in response to growth in the feral or homeless cat population along the Merrimack River in Newburyport. The MRFRS began a trap, neuter, and return (TNR) program for these cats in 1992 with feeding stations where the cats are fed twice a day. In 2009, Zorro, the last feral cat from the colony, passed away. Each year, we assist cats in need from over 100 towns in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.Â
These are our programs:
Adoption center in Salisbury, MA
A feral trap, vaccinate, neuter, and release program
A low-cost spay/neuter program operated by the Catmobile
A foster home program for healthy and special needs cats and kittens
A barn program for feral relocation
Adoption Policy
Adoption
The MRFRS adopts out adult cats and kittens. All of our cats and kittens up for adoption come with over $500 in veterinary treatment including being: spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped and given an overall wellness exam by our vet. All cats come with a 14-Day Health Warranty. Adult cats are tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV; kittens under 6 months of age are tested for Feline Leukemia. Our cats also have a lifetime guarantee of a home with us, should the need ever arise.
