Our Mission
Great Plains SPCA is one of the largest no-kill animal shelters in Kansas City, serving nearly 5,000 pets annually through adoption, education, and community outreach programs. As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our lifesaving services for animals can only be provided because of your generosity and commitment to our mission. Great Plains SPCA exists solely because of our caring Kansas City community and gracious donors.
Adoption Policy
We are open for adoptions, no appointment necessary, Wednesdays through Sundays from 11am-7pm. On Monday and Tuesday, we are available for adoptions by appointment only.
-We recommend (and in some cases require) that all members of the household meet the pet prior to adoption.
-Great Plains SPCA runs background checks on adopters and adults in the home over 18.
-Great Plains SPCA requires all visitors to wear masks that cover the nose and mouth at all times while inside our buildings. Disposable masks are available upon request.

Adoption Requirements:
- Adopter must be 18 years of age or older.
- For the safety and health of our animals, we do not ship pets.
- Pet adoption fees range from $60 to $450. Our adoption fees help to offset the cost of evaluation, housing, feeding and medical care for the thousands of animals needing our help. We do our best to keep our adoption prices reasonable while generating income to support our goal of caring for animals available for adoption until we can place them in a loving home. The adoption fee for each animal varies and is dependent on many factors including: age, size, behavior, medical condition, and public demand.
