Trinity County Animal Shelter
Our Mission
The Trinity County Animal Shelter is committed to serving the public in the care and well being of animals throughout Trinity County. We offer such diverse services as finding homes for adoptable animals, providing for stray animals, offering assistance to owners and people who find lost animals. Shelter's services also include rescue and care of injured or distressed animals, rabies control, investigation of reports of animal abuse and neglect, and the enforcement of animal regulation laws, including dog licensing.
Adoption Policy
Our adoption policies are as follows:
You must be 18 years or older to adopt.
You must provide valid driver's license or ID when filling out the adoption form.
If you decide to adopt an animal that is not already spayed or neutered, you will get the animal fixed. You are making the promise when you sign the legally binding contract that is the adoption form. It is required that all animals adopted from a shelter will be spayed or neutered by either 6 months of age or within 2 months of adopting. If you do not follow this rule, you will be issued a misdemeanor by the animal control officer, even if you live out of state.
If you already have dogs and you live in Trinity County California, you are required to have your dogs licensed with us before you are allowed to adopt a dog.
If you already have dogs, we prefer you bring your current dog to meet the one you are interested in adopting to do a meet-and-greet so we can be sure there won't be any issues between your new companion and your current ones.
If you are renting from someone or living with your parents, we require some form of proof that they are allowing you to adopt an animal. If you are interested in any dog that looks like a Pitbull, we require that they are informed and are okay with you adopting that breed. Text, email or a phone call while you are in our office are all acceptable.
----------
Our shelter offers Spay and Neuter Vouchers to assist with the cost of getting your animals fixed. They are only given to Trinity County California residents. They are only valid for 60 days. They are only accepted at Trinity County vets (They are also accepted at Haven Humane in Redding but this is the only out of county place that will). These vouchers are free but to receive one for your dog, your dog must be licensed in our county and to get a license, your dog must have a rabies vaccination from your vet.
Vouchers will assist with this cost:
Cats - $30.00
Dogs - $50.00
In February, which is National Spay and Neuter Month, the voucher cost increases. There are only a limited number of these increased cost vouchers.
Cats - 50.00
Dogs - 75.00
