Our Mission

WHAT WE DO
Dulce Vida Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization on a
mission to save the lives of sick, neglected, abandoned, abused,
and homeless animals in California, Tijuana, and beyond.
Sustained solely by donations and powered by dedicated
volunteers, we step in every day to provide innocent animals on the streets with essential food,
vital medical care and loving forever families. We give them a chance to rewrite their stories and live a DULCE VIDA happily ever after.

OUR GOAL
To build, operate, and maintain a facility
dedicated to spaying and neutering homeless
animals while offering free services to
low-income communities. This model, with a
strong emphasis on education and community
engagement, serves as our guide for expansion.
Our central focus remains the rescue of dogs
and cats from the streets of Mexico, providing
vital veterinary care, rehabilitation, foster homes,
and facilitating adoptions into loving forever
homes.

SUPPORT OUR MISSION
At Dulce Vida Rescue, we rely on your donations
to sustain our life-saving mission. Your support
is what makes it possible for us to continue our
viral work and create a meaningful impact for
animals in need.

Adoption Policy

Thank you for your interest in adopting one of our rescue dogs! My name is Tati, and I’ll be your adoption coordinator. Throughout the process, you may also hear from other members of our team. Please read the following information carefully, as it will guide you through the next steps in the adoption process.

Medical History & Vetting Disclosures
Dulce Vida Rescue will disclose any known medical conditions to the adopter. However, as rescue dogs often come from unknown backgrounds, future health issues may arise, and these will be the adopter’s responsibility. Please review our Dulce Vida Rescue Dogs Medical History and Vetting Disclosures for more details. If you agree to the terms, you can proceed with setting up a meet and greet.

Meet & Greet
The first step in the adoption process is setting up a meet and greet. For the safety of both our fosters and adopters, we ask that these meetings take place in open spaces such as a backyard, park (NOT a dog park), or during a neighborhood walk. Meetings can be at your home or the foster’s home. If anyone involved has been exposed to COVID-19 or is experiencing symptoms, please wait until you are cleared before scheduling the meet and greet.

Adoption Process & Timing: What Happens Next?
To keep the process moving smoothly, please reach out by email or text us at (619) 996-4701 with your availability within 24 hours to arrange a meeting. If you live with family, roommates, a significant other, or other pets (excluding cats, which have a different process), everyone must attend the meet and greet to ensure a good fit. We aim to schedule the meet and greet within 7 days of initial contact. If we’re unable to arrange a timely meeting, we may need to move on to the next applicant.

For dogs with multiple strong applicants, we sometimes arrange for the dog to meet several potential adopters before making a final decision. This helps us assess how the dog interacts with different families and choose the best match. If the meeting goes well and you’d like to proceed, please let us know. The final steps include reference screening, a home check (virtual or in-person), signing the adoption agreement, paying the adoption fee, and submitting a refundable vetting deposit.

Vetting and Refundable Deposit
Spay/neuter is included in the adoption fee at one of our partnered vets. If the procedure hasn’t been completed prior to adoption, it must be done post-adoption at no cost to you, as per the contract. A refundable $100 deposit is required at the time of signing to cover any no-shows or failure to complete the surgery by the contract date. If dental care is needed, this will also be covered, and a $100 refundable deposit will be required.
If you have travel plans or any other commitments that might delay bringing your dog home, please let us know before scheduling the meet and greet.

Dulce Vida Rescue Dogs Medical History and Vetting Disclosures

Dulce Vida Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of neglected, abandoned, and homeless animals. Through donations and the hard work of volunteers, we provide these animals with medical care, love, and forever homes. By choosing to adopt from us, you are helping to give these animals the chance for a better life.

Please review the following details regarding our medical and vetting policies before proceeding with the adoption process:
Initial Vetting Covered by Dulce Vida Rescue
All dogs are vetted prior to adoption. The adoption fee covers services such as wellness checks, core vaccinations (DAPP, Bordetella, Rabies), microchipping, and spay/neuter.

Post-Adoption Veterinary Care
Once adopted, the adopter is responsible for the dog's future medical care, unless otherwise agreed upon before adoption. While we disclose all known medical conditions, unforeseen issues may arise due to the unknown history of rescue animals. We recommend scheduling a wellness exam with your vet and considering pet insurance to cover future care.

Spay/Neuter
As part of our mission to reduce overpopulation, we require adopters to follow the “Spay/Neuter by Date” stated in the adoption contract. The procedure must be completed at one of our partnered veterinarians. A refundable deposit of $100 is required to ensure this commitment is fulfilled.

Dental Care
If dental surgery or a consultation is required, this will also be covered post-adoption by our partnered vets. A refundable deposit of $100 is required to cover any missed appointments or cancellations.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We are excited to help you find your new furry family member!
