K9 Kismet Dog Rescue
Our Mission
K9 Kismet Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization based in Long Beach, California. We’re foster-based and 100% volunteer-run. Founded in 2015, our dedicated team members have helped to place hundreds of animals in loving, permanent homes
Our primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving, permanent homes for dogs in shelters who are at-risk of euthanasia and dogs whose owners can no longer care for them. We believe in compassionate rescue when a dog is enduring inhumane living conditions or is likely to be deemed less adoptable due to age, health, emotional state, or breed. We ensure that all the dogs we take into our rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.
We strive to make a difference in the life of each dog we bring into our pack, and our commitment to each dog doesn’t end once they are adopted. We provide lifelong support to all K9 Kismet alumni should an emergency arise. Once a K9 Kismet Dog, always a K9 Kismet Dog. This isn’t a catch phrase; this is a core value.
Our secondary mission is to help pets stay in their homes by offering assistance through our community outreach programs.
Adoption Policy
Looking to add a new member to your family and think one of our dogs might be a good fit? Here’s the K9 Kismet’s adoption process:
1. Submit Application: There are no trick questions, so please be open and honest in your responses.
2. Phone Interview: Someone from our team will reach out via email or phone to schedule a call.
3. Meet-and-Greet: We keep our numbers low with the intent of knowing all our dogs well. If the dog you’re interested in will likely be a good fit for you and your household, we’ll reach out to the foster to schedule a time to meet. If not, we may have suggestions for other dogs in the rescue. Consider us matchmakers in this process. Feel free to request multiple meet-and-greets; depending on the situation, it may even be encouraged. This is a lifelong commitment and our ultimate goal is to make matches that are ideal for both the dog and their new family.
4. Home Check: Please be prepared to open your home to a representative from our rescue. A home visit allows us the opportunity to ensure the dog will be safe and secure. It’s also a great time for adopters to ask additional questions before finalizing an adoption. We’ll schedule a date and time that is convenient for you.
5. Sign Adoption Contract: This document will be shared in advance and is a necessary piece in the transfer of ownership.
6. Pay the Adoption Fee: We are a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization, so the donation you make is tax deductible.
All of the dogs in our care receive regular wellness exams, preventative treatment, and specialty care as needed. All are fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered (unless medically waived), and microchipped. For the vast majority of the dogs we pull into rescue, the adoption fee covers a fraction of the cost that went into rehabilitating the dog. Your tax-deductible adoption fee will help replenish funds needed to help another dog in need of rescue.
