Humane Society of Kodiak Animal Shelter
Our Mission
The Humane Society of Kodiak is committed to preventing animal cruelty, reducing the homeless and abandoned pet population, and promoting the proper care of animals.
Adoption Policy
If you are interested in adopting one of our shelter pets, please fill out our online adoption application in full.
Do not just send an email saying you want to adopt.
It typically takes approximately 24 hrs or more to process an adoption application.
You must be 21 years of age or older and present a current photo ID.
The Humane Society of Kodiak may limit the number of animals that can be adopted at any one time, require certain animals to be adopted together, or require other restrictions regarding other pets or children. These restrictions are in place so we can give every shelter pet the best chance of success in a new home.
All adult dogs, cats and rabbits will be spayed or neutered prior to leaving the shelter.
All dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens, will receive a microchip implant prior to adoption.
All current pets in the household MUST be spayed or neutered and current on vaccines.
If you already have a dog in your household, we must conduct a "meet & greet".
If you rent your residence, we will need the landlord's contact information & consent.
All dogs who are 6 months of age or older will be required to purchase a dog license.
Please know that if you do not live on Kodiak Island you will not be able to adopt an unaltered puppy or kitten from us.
Adoption of an animal is NOT on a first come, first served basis. We evaluate adoption applicants based on the animal’s needs.
The Humane Society of Kodiak reserves the right to refuse any adoption.
