Homer Animal Shelter
Our Mission
The Homer Animal Shelter is under new management!
As of January 2017, the shelter is managed by the non-profit, Alaska Mindful Paws under a contract with the City of Homer. We are so excited to continue the important work of our community shelter.
Alaska Mindful Paws is a non-profit organization in Homer, Alaska dedicated to providing shelter, care and advocacy to homeless animals in our community.
Our executive director is Amy Ware and shelter manager is Jillian Rogers. Together with our part-time animal advocate, and supported by a board of directors and a growing team of dedicated volunteers, we are making big, positive changes when it comes to homeless animals. Find us on Facebook, or alaskamindfulpaws.org.
Adoption Policy
Our adoption goal is to make the best match possible for you AND for the animals.Â
Â
Adoption of an animal is not on a first come, first served basis.
We evaluate adoption applicants based on the animal’s needs.
Applications may take a few days to evaluate and process.
We recommend your entire family come and visit with an animal to ensure it is the right fit for your home.
Meet & greet sessions with family dogs are strongly encouraged.
