Please be advised that animal licensing is in effect for all the municipalities that we serve. Contact animal services in your municipality to inquire on how and where to purchase a license. Municipal law requires a license to be purchased each year, failure to purchase can result in additional fines. If you have not yet purchased your yearly license, please do so as soon as possible to help return your pet home safely, avoiding shelter redemption fees and other unwanted fines.
Adoption requests are considered for stray pets after the 5 business day redemption period has concluded. The redemption period does not include Sundays, statutory holidays or any day in which the shelter is closed to the public. The shelter's first priority is always to reunite lost pets with their families.
Rehoming requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and at the discretion of the shelter. The Georgina Animal Shelter strives to keep pets in their homes and will offer alternative solutions and other resources during each rehoming consultation.

Adoption Policy
We at the Georgina Animal Shelter strive to find the best possible outcomes for the homeless cats and dogs that enter our care care. The majority of pets we receive have no known medical or behaviour histories. Each pet is continually assessed throughout its time in our care.
All pets receive an individualized animal welfare plan including spaying/neutering, vaccinations, anti-parasitic treatments, nutritional plan and any other medical treatments or behvaiour modifications deemed necessary.
Temperament and personality assessments allow us to better match pets with potential adopters. Completing a detailed adoption questionnaire helps to ensure that we are matching perspective adopters with the pet that is best suited to their home environment and lifestyle. We want each adoption to be a success and pride ourselves in providing a transparent and thorough adoption process.
All dogs adopted through the Georgina Animal Shelter will receive one complimentary private training session with Grass Roots K9, our local dog training partners. Follow up calls and/or emails are provided to each adopter to ensure that the transition of their new pet into their home is successful.
If you would like to inquire about a pet that is available for adoption, contact us at 1-800-898-8606 or email us at animal-control@georgina.ca to learn more.
