Russ has had a great racing career and then held a second career as an Amish buggy horse. He came to Sunshine after being rescued from a kill pen in 2016. After Russ had some much deserved down time, he started to learn to lunge and he picked it up very quickly. He spent many nights in the arena enjoying free jumping over cross rails at his own will.

Russ was started slow under saddle and worked his way up to trail rides. He truly enjoys the outdoors and does best when riding with a buddy. He does have a hitch in his giddy up and is best at walk.

Seemingly grumpy, Russ will relax and follow you blindly if he trusts you. He’s the type of horse to ‘make you earn it’ but will reward you greatly. Russ is best paired with a confident rider who will guide him when he’s unsure of the situation.

At this point in his life, Russ has been diagnosed with ring bone and arthritis. His discomfort is managed with corrective shoeing and Equioxx, and would enjoy living out his life in a beautiful pasture with his special person and gentle rides.
