Meet Zipper
My Name is Eric. I am a New Yorker living in Mexico rescuing street dogs in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico since 2020. The Thriving Dog Mexico is not just a shelter, we are a sanctuary where we help dogs in need of physical and emotional rehabilitation and in return they help us heal too. Our mission is to prepare every single on or our dogs, no matter how their life may have started, to be prepared for a life where they will be loved, respected and THRIVE. All of the dogs under my care live inside with me in my house, are house trained and accustomed to what it means to live in a warm loving environment. They enjoy sleeping in a warm bed, watching tv on the sofa, being playful in my yard and soaking up the sun or laying under a tree when they just want to take a bit of rest.
Unless being fostered in Los Angeles, all our dogs will make the journey to the United States from Mexico upon the approval of their adoption. We welcome the opportunity for adoptees to come and visit our dogs in Guadalajara, Mexico before adopting. We are happy to help with arrangements and find it a very rewarding experience for those adoptees who have done this.
We are seriously committed to finding the correct humans for our dogs and ask that only serious applicants apply. As part of our application process, you will be required to participate in at least one video call and participate in a home visit. If the dog you are interested in adopting is still here with us in Mexico, transportation is included in the adoption fee. We will coordinate all the required documents, transportation and an initial meet and greet. We only fly on direct flights and currently fly out of Guadalajara International Airport (GDL) and Leon Bajio International Airport (BJX) when transporting from Mexico to the United States.
We have placed over 40 dogs in their forever homes in the United States since 2023. We ask you to trust our process, we know what we are doing and we only do what is best for our dogs. I consider them all my children and their health, safety wellbeing are my utmost priority.
We are happy to share our adoption stories from those who have joined The Thriving Dog Family. Please ask of for references.
You may ask yourself, why adopt a once homeless dog from Mexico when there are so many dogs in shelters in the United States being euthanized. We believe ALL the dogs of the world need our support. If you have not been to Mexico, one thing you would notice very quickly is the number of homeless dogs. Street dogs are a part of every small village and large city here in Mexico. Many of the dogs living on the streets are dumped as puppies, die from deadly viruses, are shot or poisoned or are hit and killed by cars or 18 wheelers. If they are lucky enough to beat those odds, they are left to a life of searching for food, water and shelter on a daily basis.
So, when you adopt a once homeless dog from The Thriving Dog Mexico you are not only giving a deserving dog a wonderful and safe home you are also supporting the work we are committed to here in the communities of Mexico. Your support helps our organization sponsor sterilization campaigns, educational events which ultimately gets more of these dogs off the streets.
Little by little together we are bringing awareness and transforming the narrative of a culture.
