Meet Zelda

My name is Zelda and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 3 y.o. and weigh about 14 lbs. I may be small, but I have a lot of Shiba-tude in this little body! I came to my foster home here in Smithville, MO from a commercial breeding facility. I’m so glad to be free!!!! I love to explore and run around. I am still a bit cautious and shy, but my curiosity is helping me to be brave. I like to steal socks and other small articles of clothing in my reach. When it’s time to go into my crate, I like to make foster mom chase after me. I’m good in my crate, as long as I’m not in there for too long. If I’m getting antsy, I will make sure everyone knows that I want OUT! I’m a good girl in my foster home. I love snuggling with the other dog who lives here and I’m curious about the two human kids who live here. I love to watch what they are doing and I’ll approach and sniff, but am a little too shy to let them pet me. I’m learning all kinds of new things here, like walking on a leash. Foster mom says that I have some work to do still on my leash manners. I’m good with other dogs. I’ve met big dogs and little ones and I like them all. I haven’t met any cats or other small pets yet, so I don’t know if I’d be a good match for them, but I don’t chase the birds and squirrels and bunnies that I see outside. I’m house trained and healthy – spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. My perfect forever home will have patient humans who will be understanding if I’m shy at first. Pro tip: I LOVE treats, which might help persuade me to be brave! My forever family will have experience with skittish dogs and careful to prevent escapes (little Shibas like me are fast and prone to bolt out of an open door or squeeze through a tiny gap in a fence, especially when scared). I’d love to have another nice dog in my forever home to help me adjust and learn the ropes. If you live in the Midwest and want a pretty and spunky little girl to keep you company, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become approved to adopt from SIRA. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!
