Meet Zeke
Zeke is a 2 year old, 35 pound Great Dane/Plott Hound mix who was also found as a stray in Owen County and never reclaimed. While Zeke only weighs 35 pounds, he should weigh closer to 50 and needs to put on some much needed weight.
We're not sure if his lack of weight was due to owner neglect or if he'd been on his own for quite a while. Perhaps it's a combination of both but we'll never know.
Zeke is a sweet boy with a ton of energy! He loves to run and play, so he'll need a securely fenced yard. He loves to play with toys, and is a pro at getting squeakers out.
He is not aggressive and responds well to loud claps and “No”, but is still working on other commands, like “Sit”. He is doing very well with our kids and dogs, and seems to be crate trained and house broken. He will take some time to adjust, but will do great in a home with an active family and room to run and play.
Zeke did test positive for Lyme which is a non-contagious tick-borne disease. He's receiving antibiotics and a Lyme vaccine, which will help keep the Lyme dormant. However, the Lyme will remain with Zekei for the remainder of his life. A yearly Lyme vaccine will help keep the disease dormant. Should a flareup occur, it will be noted by joint pain/inflammation and lethargy. Typically, a dose of antibiotics will be enough to cause the disease to go dormant again. If Zeke should have several flare ups, in a short amount of time, it could potentially affect his kidney function. Lyme has become more prevalent in the Kentucky/West Virginia area where we pull most of our dogs. Thus far, everyone adopted has gone on to live happy healthy lives.
If you would like to meet Zeke, please go to our website at www.rescueahart.org and fill out an online adoption application.
All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks! www.rescueAhart.org
