Lives with: People. She grew up with kids over 12 and did very well with them. She has lived with other dogs successfully but does require daily management (Zara can be a bully to her dog friends and loves to push boundaries if she doesn’t have a firm handler), so she’d do best as the only animal in the home.
Update from my foster 3/28: It’s been 5 months of us fostering Zara, she is now 15-months old & has never had a forever home. Zara is fully trained, loves a routine, and thrives when her days are predictable. She’s a well-behaved girl who can comfortably be left in her crate for up to 8 hours while you're at work. She gets a walk in the morning and another walk after we arrive home from work. After her evening walk, she’s ready to relax with you, enjoy some cuddles, and get a few belly rubs (and naps, she loves napping). Her ideal home would be one where she gets plenty of attention, walks, and affection. She is fearful of new people but does warm up to strangers with proper introductions, which is why she doesn’t give off the best first impression at foster events. Once she is comfortable with you, she is the most loving, loyal, and reliable companion. Zara could be the perfect match for you!

Update from my foster 11/15: Meet our current foster dog, Zara who is a sweet & lovable well trained 10 month old puppy. She takes a little time to warm up to people but once she’s comfortable with you, she will adore you. She loves to play fetch, go on walks or runs, but also loves cuddling on the couch.

Zara joined us when she was only 4 weeks old with her three siblings. They were found nursing off their emaciated, chained mama living outside in rural South Carolina. Local advocates convinced the owners to surrender the puppies and their mom so they could get them the medical care they needed! Zara and her siblings came to PA to a foster home, and the other three puppies quickly found their forever homes. Unfortunately for Zara, no family ever came for her, so she remains with us 7 months past her rescue :( Zara is now 8 months old and weighs 65 lbs. She is a shy girl who can be nervous meeting new people, but she warms up quickly with a gentle and slow approach and yummy treats. She actually prefers meeting kids! She’s grown up with older kids in her foster home and loves to cuddle and play with them. Zara has grown up with other dogs and does well with evenly matched playmates. She would do well with a dog who can match her playstyle, but would also be happy as your one and only! Zara received three weeks of professional training back when she was 4 months old and is an expert with basic obedience! She’s super attuned to her handler and will check in regularly on walks for guidance. Zara has already waited far too long for a family of her own. She has outgrown her puppy foster home and while her foster family loves her dearly, it’s clear that Zara needs a home of her own, where she doesn’t need to share her space with so many other dogs.
