Meet Zane
Zane is ready to find his forever family!
Born June 24/2021, Zane is a neutered male, 10 month Shepherd/Lab mix puppy who is all things good in this world
He currently weighs 55lbs and his approximate adult weight is expected to be around 65-70lbs
He's a super sweet, friendly guy, and so tenacious.
He's very goofy and he's very good at making you smile and laugh every day with his silly antics.
Please read his entire profile before applying.
You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered , see instructions at the bottom of this profile.
Zane joined our rescue at only 9 weeks of age due to a fractured hip, and has spent his time in loving foster home care, attending all of his vet appts, including neuter and FHO hip surgery
His surgery was a great success and he is rocking his rehab and has been given the all clear to resume normal activities and a great prognosis for a long and happy, active life.
Zane really loves dogs and gets very excited to go see them to make new friends. He's a bit pushy with puppy energy, and needs work on reading other dogs' signals, but he's very friendly.
A confident dog buddy for companionship and guidance will help but he would also do well as an only dog if not left alone too long due to his young age.
If there is another dog in the home, he'd need a playmate that would tolerate his puppy energy.
He is not an ideal match for senior dogs or young children in his home due to his bouncy, playful energy and due to still working on not jumping up on people.
He's very friendly meeting all new people, gets excited and is working on not jumping on people when greeting them.
He's very happy go lucky and we have not seen any sort of resource guarding behaviour at all with him
Zane is crate trained but also does very well in a puppy proofed room outside of his crate when alone.
He happily goes into the vehicle for car rides.
As a young pup with a life expectancy with his breed mix of up to 15+ years, Zane is not a suitable match for older senior owners.
Due to his young age and ongoing training and mental stimulation needs, his adoptive family should be someone not away for more than 4 hours at a time/home often to meet his needs.
Zane loves to be outdoors, but of course requires supervision at all times and is not a candidate for off leash hikes or dog parks.
Notes:
*Registration with a positive method, approved training school/trainer is mandatory for this dog to continue with their training, socialization and to help set them up for success in their forever home/future.
*Children must be older (due to his size and energy), respectful and dog savvy, with parental supervision required at all times.
*This is not a breed to be a first dog for children or adults, so we are only considering families with previous experience owning/ training dogs.
*Must be located within Ontario Canada
*Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard
Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require two in person meetings in St Jacobs ON
If you are not willing to drive to this location to meet our dogs after you are approved, please do not apply. We do not meet elsewhere nor deliver dogs. Adoptions within Ontario only
If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please use this link to submit an application https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application
Zane's adoption fee is a minimum donation of $550. Adoption fees help to cover massive vet expenses incl neuter, FHO surgery, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, bloodwork and any medical treatments required during their time with us.
For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:
We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
, or on Amazon prime or also a variety of other free video sites.
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.
An adoption application must be completed and approved, including vet references as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs.
All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Our dogs are in private foster family homes, not in a shelter.
Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com
Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.
Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.
Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
