Duni is a male Australian Cattle Dog and 4 years old. I took him out of a neglected home in El Paso, TX, where he was tied up on a short rope and wore a shock collar to control his barking. He received little attention, was malnourished and sunburnt. He has been in my care since July 2020, in New York City. I’ve been training him and working on his fears. He has some basic commands down, sit, stay, lay down, leave it is hit or miss. We play ‘find it’ often, he’s very good at it. Duni would really like to be around his owner 100% of the time if possible, he’s as velcro as they come. He has a lot of potential, just needs patience and training. I have had him meet other dogs while on leash and all (25 or so) have been positive, except one, my other dog. She can’t stand him, and they fight. I keep them separated and there is peace in the house. To meet other dogs, the other dog should be extremely well socialized, and tolerant of ill-mannered dogs (Duni is essentially a puppy, but 44lbs). He can be fear-reactive towards strangers, but counter-conditioning with high reward treats works, it will take time. I believe he would excel in a single person or couple household, with no kids or other pets. He doesn’t seem to want a lot of exercise, just to be with his owner. He is crated when I am away from home and at night. I want to find the best possible home for this guy. He's neutered and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $150.
