Meet Xolo
Introducing Xolo, pronounced “show-low,” a mid-sized adult house hippo that absolutely loves to play with tennis balls. Xolo may be her name but shadow is her personality. She will be your best companion as an outdoor wilderness explorer or snuggle buddy if you would rather lay low on the couch instead.
Xolo knows how to shake hands and ring bells at the door when she needs to go outside, what a good girl! Xolo needs a little extra encouragement when it comes to getting in the car but she’ll tolerate the ride. She is not fond of being in a crate but you don’t need to worry about that because she does well in the home once she knows she is safe. Despite her lack of thumbs, she can nose-open doors when they are not fully closed; so if it's an area you would rather keep off-limits, then we suggest making sure the door is latched.
We think Xolo would be a great dog sibling if you’re looking to grow your fur family. She behaves especially well with her foster’s family dog and plays well with the neighbor dogs too. Xolo would love a home with a yard to run and play in or be with a family that loves to spend plenty of time outdoors. Whether you’re hitting the trails or picnicking in the park, bring your new best friend, Xolo, so you’ll never have to go solo.

We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog.
Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess.
Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!
