Meet Xoana
Xoana takes her time warming up to new people and dogs. However, with kindness, patience and gentle encouragement, she slowly builds trust and shows her affectionate side. She has yet to meet cats or children, so a calm, understanding home would be ideal as she continues to adjust to her new life.
One of Xoana's greatest joys is going on walks-she is easy on a leash, non-reactive, and seems truly at peace when exploring the world at her own pace. Though still somewhat shut down, Xoana is incredibly smart and learning commands quickly, proving she has so much potential with the right guidance.
If you're looking for a gentle, soulful companion who needs a little extra time but will reward you with unwavering devotion, Xoana is ready to meet you. Are you the one who will help her heart bloom?
Submit your online adoption application through our website today to not miss out on this opportunity to bring this pup home for a 3-day in-home adoption trial. Will you be her hero?
Xoana's rescue story:
Xoana is no plain Jane, although her name derives from that moniker! This diminutive beauty's little tail is always moving happily, regardless of her activity... almost as if the tail has a life of its own! But we know Xoana is controlling it, because she is such a joyful girl. Xoana is probably the smallest of her brood of 6, brought to us with their sweet momma, and we think she is the wiggliest one too! Her lovely amber eyes and hint of creamy white on her chest complement her beautiful buff-colored coat. Since puppyhood, Xoana has been very cute and affectionate, as well as inquisitive. She followed a ball rolling around the play yard even though it was nearly as big as she was, and showed no fear - she likes to investigate. Cute as a button, Xoana is ready to become your very own personal tail-wagger! We give her five stars, and we're certain you will adore her snuggly, waggy self!
steps to adopting
(OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!)
The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the "OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.
To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $450. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport and other rescue related expenses. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they fly, which includes sterilization whenever possible, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost.
Upon their arrival, all dogs are seen for a wellness exam by SDH's medical team. Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
