Meet Wyatt Samuel (watch his incredible rescue video)
WYATT was originally adopted from a southern rescue and came to CT as a shy, introverted puppy. One day while outside with his owner's 10 year old daughter, he got spooked and slipped his collar. He's spent the last 10 years roaming around his complex in Norwich, CT, never traveling beyond a 2-block radius.
The people in Norwich knew all about WYATT. They called him their local stray. Supposedly a trapper even tried to catch him a couple of times, but eventually gave up, claiming WYATT didn't want to be caught.
Eventually WYATT crossed the street and wound up at a neighbor's house. That person began feeding WYATT and definitely kept him alive.
WYATT is now approximately 13 years old. (DOB sometime around 2012.) He's endured a very harsh and lonely life. The most notable issue is a giant, basketball-sized lipoma on his side. When our friend Jenn heard his story, she committed to rescuing WYATT and drive to Norwich to set up a trap.
Jenn accomplished in 48 hours what no one else could in an entire decade!
And WYATT? He was so relieved to finally be safe and was 100% ready to give up the hustle of street life for a peaceful, loving home where he can enjoy 2 square meals a day and the comfort of a soft bed. (He's a gentle soul who enjoys the simple pleasures.)
WYATT is an easygoing, low maintenance companion. He is happiest lounging around, basking in a sunbeam or curling up in a cozy spot for a nap. His heart is pure gold, all he wants is a safe place to call his own for his retirement years.
WYATT is great with cats and will do well in a household with feline friends, but he prefers a calm environment—ideally without young children.
WYATT is a survivor! He still has medical needs that need to be addressed, but the funds have been raised to cover all of the costs. He has already completed treatment for Lyme disease, and is now tackling heartworm. The treatments are scheduled for March 18, and April 15 & 16. Once his heartworm treatment is completed, the vet can remove the non-cancerous lipoma (fatty tumor) from his side and WYATT can get on with life.
WYATT is not a young pup, but he has good energy, and once he's healed he'll definitely be up for some adventures. For now, he needs a peaceful environment in which to recover and heal—somewhere he can feel safe and comfortable while receiving the medical care he needs.
WYATT will do best in a home with a secure, fenced-in yard where he can safely explore and soak up the sunshine on nice days. He'll need bathroom breaks every few hours, and a family that understands and appreciates the needs of a senior dog.
As mentioned, all expenses related to his Lyme disease, heartworm treatments, and tumor removal will be fully covered. If you live too far from his vet in Old Lyme, CT, don’t worry—we’ve got his transportation covered too!
WYATT is already neutered. He weighs 50 lbs with the tumor. Once it's removed he'll weigh 40-45 lbs.
