This is Winnie. Winnie is the sweetest dog with humans and children, she is the epitome of a gentle giant. She is extremely docile, soft and loving. She is a very calm dog with very little energy. Although she’s a livestock guardian, her former owner never trained her as such so she’s been an indoor dog and a couch potato her entire life.
She knows how to sit, lay down, stay, come, and wait for her treats that are put on the ground or to eat her food until she is told to. She is actually a very good listener and loves to please.
Winnie loves car rides, calm environments, (although she does wonderful with children and does good with kids running around the house playing, etc, she normally will just go find somewhere quiet to sleep) and she loves to be snuggled up on and her belly rubbed!
She is a big scaredy cat, so she’s scared of things like the vacuum, but she will just leave the room if you’re vacuuming. She does totally fine with fireworks.
She has never growled at or bitten an adult or a child.
Winnie doesn’t love other animals she is a resource guarder and will attack other dogs if there is human food or her own food around. She has done okay with other medium sized dogs when no food is around but she’d prefer to be your one and only!
Winnie also has separation anxiety, her previous person has worked really hard with her and she is MUCH better than she was, but she still has some issues. She does great in a kennel when people are home, but she doesn’t do well being kenneled home alone (unless it’s a steel kennel or indestructible, she will escape out of it) the best thing we have found to do is put her in the backyard if you go anywhere, and she does very well. She can be left in the house, but sometimes she will open up the fridge or cupboards and get things from them. Winnie will do best and thrive in a home where there is someone home most of the time. She is currently on Prozac for separation anxiety.
That being said we believe that in a calm environment with no other animals and a great routine she will be less anxious and will also stop getting out of her crate. Routine, stability and a bit of patience and she will thrive.
Winnie was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few months ago and is on thyro-tabs for that.
Winnie is a wonderful girl who is just looking for the right home where she can thrive. She may have a few minor challenges but she is loyal and lovely and would like to grow and learn with her new family.
