Meet Winky
She is such a sweet girl and she loves to meet new people, dogs and cats. She is a very active girl that has to go to a home with another dog, preferably one that plays hard like she does. She is not delicate, she's a big goof who likes run and wrestle. Right now she has no manners, except to sit, however she is extremely smart and with some training and consistency she will be great.
Winky's past life has created some trauma. When she is scared or nervous, she goes into flight or fight mode. If she can fly (run), she will. If she can't, she immediately goes down, as close to the ground as she can get and uses all her power to pull whoever is holding her to get to her safe space. She is EXTREMELY skittish of loud noises. We are in the country, so gunshots, lawnmowers, ATV's, our tractor, all of these things scare her. She does require a 6 ft wood or vinyl fence due to her fear. If she is left outside unattended and something loud goes off, she'll be gone. We haven't experienced it yet, but I'm 100% certain she will be a nervous mess with fireworks. When these loud noises scare her, she wants to go right to her safe space which is her crate. This will be another requirement, her to have a crate/safe space set up in her new home. It's the only thing that comforts her. Her adopters need to understand her quirks and have a tight grip on her at all times while walking out in public. She is scared of new things, but with treats she learns quickly that it's ok. The loud noises will take a bit more work. But at the same time, if there is another dog, she will follow their lead. So a non reactive brother or sister would be perfect for her. When she walks with another dog, her immediate reaction to something new is to look at them first. If they don't react, she feels it's ok and will go on. With loud noises, her ears go back and she looks for a place to run but as long as the other dog isn't affected, she will calm down and go back to playing.
She's a great dog who has so much potential. She just needs the right people in the right environment. We really feel she'd be the best therapy dog for kids, especially with her injured eye.
