Meet Willie - Urgent List Dog!
This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally.

Meet Willie - an approximately 3 1/2 year old, 75 pound, Yellow Lab mix boy from Tennessee. Willie was noticed by a rural mail carrier. She saw him running loose for several weeks and when his weight started declining, she knew he needed help and called our rescue partner. He has been on our website for more than SIX months and we just don't understand why!!
Willy is a sweet and very active boy. He would love to go on daily walks or even runs if an adopter is looking for a running buddy! He is very good on a leash and has great endurance. He is very happy and loves to be around people. He also is great playing with other dogs. He should be in a cat and chicken free home as he does have a bit of a prey drive. He has been in boarding while he waits for a space to open up in a foster home - but he is safe, cared for and loved.
The kennel staff don't understand why he has not been adopted yet. His favorite kennel staff member brought him home for a vacation and has said that he has been amazing with her family and kids. She says, "He was so excited to get out of boarding. He rode great in my vehicle on the way home. He just rode loose and enjoyed the ride. He has met my two kiddos (5 and 7 year olds daughters) and my four dogs (ranging in all sizes and ages) and has done great with them all. He is calm, has not jumped on any furniture and is just a very happy guy. This boy has a gorgeous face, a happy temperament, and an amazing heart! He is going to be a wonderful buddy for a lucky family! Please don't let him be stuck in a kennel again when he has been enjoying house life with a family so much."
Willie did test positive for Heartworm when he entered rescue but has completed all his treatment and has no other related care other than the monthly heart worm prevention which is needed for any dog.
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
