Meet Wellington
Wellington (also known as Wellie) is an 9.5-year-old corgi mix. We adopted him from the Seattle Humane in December 2016, when he was 1.5 years old. Wellie is very much a people dog--he enjoys being close to his humans and likes being petted and cuddled. He has a goofy little personality--he'll periodically get the zoomies and hilariously race around the house, and it's also not uncommon for him to roll around on his back and snort just because. Wellie enjoys spending time outside in nice weather and loves walks, but does have some intermittent leash issues (mostly barking at other dogs--this could likely be overcome with more regular practice). He's also very content taking a nap on the couch or in a dog bed in the sun, and is accustomed to sleeping on the bed with his people at night.
Some other things to know: Wellie cannot live with or be around small children. He bit our young toddler and caused puncture wounds that needed medical treatment. For that reason, Wellie cannot live with or be around small children at all (even if they are just visiting for a short time). At the advice of a dog behaviorist we have kept him separate from our son since then. We are happy to provide you more details upon request.
Wellie has lived with another dog since we adopted him but has a dominant personality, so a meet and greet with any existing pets would be important. Any other dogs should be submissive and ideally not interested in interacting much. He takes watchdog duties very seriously and will alert you to deliveries, noises outside, dogs walking by, etc, so apartment living probably wouldn't be the best fit for him.
Wellie has been seen regularly by a veterinarian for the entire time we've had him and received all recommended vaccinations. He most recently had a full workup in September/October 2024 (exam, lab work, teeth cleaned, etc) and received a clean bill of health. He does have allergies and is on medications and a prescription limited ingredient diet to manage them. He is also prone to ear infections and needs regular at-home ear cleanings.
