Meet Wally
Could it be, a cuddly heeler? Meet the cuddliest, fuzziest meatball you ever did see, Wally, aka Wally Bear! Wally was found dumped in KY, but lucked out and found his way to ACDRA and to his foster mom in New York.
This pint-sized pistol is a 4-year-old stumpy red heeler mix who is a little on the pudgy side. Aren’t we all? Like all heelers, Wally can be very stubborn and he tries to operate on his own time. But he is extremely food motivated and aspirationally athletic. His adorable teddy bear face and copious kisses offset his mouth-first style of communication. The heeler genes are very strong in this one and he would likely excel on a farm, or involvement in other herding-like activities that harness his heeling powers for good. He is not recommended for a home with cats, other small animals, or small children due to his nipping and general tendency to slide-tackle for bellies. Children over the age of 12, with appropriate knowledge of herding dog behaviors, should be fine. Once a little bit of the weight is off, he would likely be a great hiking buddy, as he loves to sniff.
Wally is also a great copilot and excellent car traveler!
He generally walks well on a leash, and is not reactive to other dogs or people, but he can be a bit protective if someone steps into your immediate personal space. Typically standoffish with newcomers, Wally is a 10 out of 10 clinger with his people and would be happiest following you around during the day.
Wally is fostering with three other dogs and does well cohabitating, even with a terrier half his size. In foster, he is starting to learn some general manners in taking treats, and beginning to learn to be comfortable with the crate.
Wally’s ideal situation is an active, savvy owner who can set and enforce boundaries, has a solid understanding of the breed, and is committed to helping him on his health journey, as well as developing his manners. He would be fine with another friendly, active sibling of either sex (though he prefers females), but would be just as content being your one and only so he can soak up all the loving himself.
Meet-and-greets in the greater tristate area (NY, NJ, CT) are available and recommended, but he is adoptable anywhere with appropriate coordination.
Wally is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. This little diamond-in-the-the-ruff is looking for a lap to love on. Could that be yours?
