MY AGE: approx. 2-3 years WEIGHT: approx. 30 lbs.
MY STORY: Voltaire is a sweet, playful and gentle male poodle. He's a great size at about 30 pounds and being a poodle, he doesn't shed. "Terry" as we call him is an all around great guy. He is great with dogs of all sizes. He could care less about the neighbor's dogs and doesn't bark at them like our own dogs do. Terry takes treats gently and waits his turn as we hand them out. He sleeps quietly all night and even puts himself into his crate when we say "let's go up" which our signal that it's bedtime and time to go upstairs. He is a very smart guy and knows that when we say "ears" it's time for us to clean his ears and he sits patiently while we do so. Terry sleeps next to our desks during the day while we work from home. He is calm in the house. But he does like to play when in the yard and occasionally will run and wrestle with our goldendoodle, Mae. Things like fireworks, storms and garbage trucks don't frighten Terry. Terry hasn't always lived life in a house though. His life started at a breeding farm, aka puppy mill. He had limited contact with people while there and didn't get the opportunity to enjoy the comfort of a comfy bed, a consistent, predictable routine or a scratch on the neck and kiss on he forehead. We're helping him make up for that now. He's made great progress in the last few months as our foster. He is cautious around my husband and will occasionally bark at him but it's getting better. Terry is food motivated so a little chicken goes a long way! We use a belly band on him while in the house to prevent any accidents. He is good about letting us put it on him. He keeps his crate clean and never has accidents while in there. He will need a home with another dog to pal around, a securely fenced yard and a patent owner. Because we want the best for Terry, his foster parents are gifting the adopters a $200 credit towards virtual training with "A Sound Beginning." They are a great, positive reinforcement based training program. And, even if you don't apply for Voltaire/Terry, check out A Sound Beginning. They offer a free virtual Intro to Training session about once a month and it's a great intro to understanding dog body language.

His journey will be a process of patience. We do require another dog in the home and a secure fenced 6 ft yard. Our Resources page has good information on breeder dogs and their socialization.

Adopters must be 24 years of age. We can not adopt to families with children under the age of six. We also only adopt in WI, IL, and parts of MN. Most of our dogs are strays, so the breed is our best guess.
