Meet Tucky

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTNKhCeLH/

It's been quite a day. It's been quite a week. Yesterday, I was told that Tucky's mom passed away a few months ago, and I feel tremendous guilt for not putting more effort into their visits lately.

Tucky came to me in Feb 2018 under the pretext of a 3-month compassionate foster stay with us. However, by 6 months, it was evident that I was attached to him and his mom was not ready to let him go. Six years later, here he is. I tried placing him in long-term foster care and even adopting him out with the condition that he could visit his mom 1-2 times a month. Unfortunately, no one felt capable of taking on this responsibility. It's a huge responsibility, and I honored it with very little support or help. To the few who helped, thank you. Tucky visited his mom last in Nov 2023, and then I just failed. I never thought this through or this far. Tucky is 12 years old now. He is still healthy and has his quirks, but the question is, should we attempt to place him or just let him live out his life at the sanctuary. We want best for him so are willing to explore adoption.

Tucky is a grumpy but happy dog, set in his ways, and he coexists happily with anyone to this day. If he notices anything new and sets it on the floor, he will mark it and claim it.

He is bossy and demanding, but he communicates his needs and dislikes very clearly. We love him and want the best for him. I just do not know what would be fair. We just assumed I would die first before either of them would.

We have had him longer than his mom ever did. We love Tucky and want better for him. Now that his mom is no longer living, maybe it is time he lives life in a real home and gets the one-on-one attention he deserves but has never really had. He's been in limbo for 6 years. Is anyone willing to adopt a 12-year-old pug with sass and a grumpy attitude, yet friendly? He spends most of his time sleeping and barks when it's time to eat. He tells me when he wants a snack or needs to go potty and expects his needs to be met promptly. He's the boss, and he makes sure we know it. He takes eye drops twice daily, but he needs to be asked multiple times and agrees to let us administer them. Again, he is the boss. His face folds and eyes are cleaned daily, but only when he's in a good mood. Usually, food needs to be involved. He tolerates baths but enjoys his brushing until he's done, and when he says he's done, he is done. He dislikes nail clipping, and it takes two of us and a jar of peanut butter. We do this every four weeks, and I expect to get bitten at least five times. He will hold a grudge and come after me at any opportunity he finds justifiable, but by the third day, he's over it.

I need prayers for guidance. I want the best for him. Are any of our potential adopters willing to take in a sweet senior grumpy dog who doesn't care and needs an owner who will be with him 24/7, tend to his requests promptly, and love him just the way he is? He gets along with everyone - cats, dogs, rabbits. He needs a human who will be devoted to him and his needs.
