Meet Tolkein
1 year old male Corgi/Shepherd? mix, about 17 pounds. Tolkein was one of 8 dogs abandoned at a water reservoir in Yakima. After surviving a coyote attack, several dogs came our way with this super cute guy being one of them. Tolkien was one of the lucky ones who did not get hurt. Tolkien is very sweet but shy. With time, his curious puppy-self starts to emerge. On rare occasion, you may witness the cutest bunny as he plays with his toys. His shy, sensitive nature makes him not very food motivated, as he is afraid to take treats from a human. But in time, toys might be the key to unlock his curiosity! However, he has been easy to housetrain with a strict schedule of feeding and potty breaks throughout the day. His previous life was very lacking in life skills, so he has begun his leash training and learning about the big world, like city noise and new places. While he is very curious, his timid nature has him stop to absorb all the new experiences - other people walking by, vehicles, Christmas lights, all sounds (including birds, dogs barking). Give him a minute to take it all in and he will continue on your walk, but he will pull on the leash if he is not ready to continue walking, or if he gets spooked by unexpected sounds. Time and exposure will help him get past his fears. Walking with him is very fun if you can join in experiencing the world! While he is very anxious if left alone, he is not specially attached to any one person. He is very sweet and accepting of anyone who engages with him gently. I have not seen a hint of aggression in him. He is good with other dogs, but cats are unknown. He would do best in a house with a yard as he can be noisy when left alone. He could be an only dog but does better with a confident doggie friend that will play with him, to follow and give him confidence. He will probably be fine with respectful kids. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. 8632781We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
