Toby Beagle & Basset Hound Mix Bethel, CT

Meet Toby, a 5.5-year-old Beagle/Basset Hound mix weighing in at a cuddly 30 lbs. We recently rescued him from South Carolina after he came into the shelter as a stray. Due to some of his quirks, we sadly believe he was used as a hunting/outdoor dog before being dumped.

Toby is a sweet, gentle soul with soft, long ears that are sure to melt your heart. He’s an easygoing guy who loves to be around other dogs, so he’d be a perfect addition to a home with another pup. Currently, he's enjoying life in a foster home with four senior dogs and gets along great with them.

Toby is very quiet and eager to please, making him a joy to be around. He’s been well-socialized and is housetrained. One of his most endearing traits is how he stands perfectly still when you’re putting on his leash or collar, a habit he likely learned from past training. Toby walks beautifully on a leash and loves outdoor playtime, so a fenced yard would be ideal for him to run and explore.

Though Toby has a calm demeanor, he’s a bit sensitive. We suspect he may have had a rough past and sometimes flinches, so he appreciates a slow, gentle approach. But once he trusts you, he’s all about the love and enjoys being petted. Due to his beagle nose, he’d benefit from a home with a fenced yard that he can safely explore.
