Meet Toby
Hi, my name is Toby! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Shy, sweet
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown history. Toby would likely do best in an adult only home, or at least one with older, respectful, dog-savvy kids/teens who can read/respect his body language and give him space when he needs it. At this time we're recommending ages 16+
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history, will need slow, supervised intro.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, pending an initial introduction done here at the shelter
-Can do Apartment Living: Possibly
-Potty Trained: Appears to be!
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: No
-Energy Level: Medium
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: No
-Additional Information: Meet Toby! This pup has had a lot of uncertainties in life before coming to WHS. Originally found as a stray in Texas, he spent some time at a shelter down there before being transported up to a foster home in Washington some time in 2021/2022. He slipped his collar shortly thereafter and has apparently been on his own since then. He was found caught in a trap earlier this year and brought to WHS. Toby is understandably a little uncertain about life and will need a calm, quiet home where he can feel safe, loved, and cared for. This shy guy took a bit to warm up but has since made some new BFFs at the shelter and is now ready and eager to find a forever family of his own. Toby would thrive with a steady, predictable routine in a home with patient, calm adopters who can give him all the time he needs to adjust and feel comfortable in his new life. Once he adjusts, we know he'll make a wonderful lifelong companion for many years to come.
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
