Meet Tiger

Tiger was surrendered along with KJ to the New. York City Animal Care Centers - the New York City Municipal Shelter in May. The owner gave a confusing story about how they got the two dogs - He received Tiger's pregnant mom and the mom gave birth to Tiger. But he came along with KJ.

The New. York City Animal Care Centers is an overcrowded shelter and these two would definitely get lost in the shuffle. Although the shelter enviornment is a stressful one, Tiger still remained wiggly and friendly throughout the examination.

A wonderful woman stepped up to save both.

These ae Tigers STATS:

Name: Tiger
Approximate age Per original owner about 1 year, per NYC ACC about 7 years I would say closer to 1 year than 7, both by teeth, body condition, and behavior - my guess would be about 2 years

Approximate weight About 38 lbs (but per ACC 27 lbs, so they aren’t always accurate-see above)

Breed Pitbull or terrier mix

Spayed or neutered? Neutered male

Good with:

kids? Unknown but he is good with everyone he meets and shows no aggression at all.

strangers? Yes

other dogs? Yes, with proper introduction

cats? Yes, though his exposure has been limited - he is curious but not aggressive at all toward them

On leash? Walks very well on a slack leash

Housetrained? Yes

Crate trained? Partially - Tiger spends his nights in a crate and can be crated during the day for short periods of time. I don’t think he would do well if left in a crate for extended periods of time every day.

Paper trained? No

Tiger loves people and other dogs. His ideal home would have one or more of each. Tiger has a medium energy level. While he can play all day, he also settles down nicely when playtime is over. His ideal home would have a yard to play in as well as a daily walk. Tiger is an intelligent dog,. His ideal home would not leave him alone all day, every day, with nothing to do and no one to play with. Most of all, Tiger loves attention, so his ideal home would love him to death!

Tiger craves affection/attention. He looks at you as he is out walking, which shows that he is attentive to his owner, tries to please them, and can be more easily trained. Tiger loves to play with other dogs, especially his brother, KJ Tiger will splash around in a kiddy pool if provided with one . Tiger was likely not treated so nicely in his prior home because he will cower if there is any yelling or loud noises

Tiger was likely untrained in his earlier life and needs to have all training done by me reinforced. He needs to continue being made to sit for treats, for leashing up, and to wait before entering/exiting a door or gate. While he does well with these skills now, he needs consistency to maintain the good habits.

Tiger is a great dog and I would keep him if I could. He is very affectionate, attentive and loyal. He really tries to please, and I believe him to be highly trainable. Tiger is sweet, loves everyone he meets, is good with other dogs, has no food aggression, and while he chews bones, he doesn’t seem to chew other things. He does like to walk around with something in his mouth while out in the yard(a stick, a toy, etc.). Tiger is a pleasure to walk because he is so good on a leash and greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail.

Of Note: Tiger’s brother, KJ is also available for adoption. They get along fabulously and make a very handsome pair. If you are open to the possibly of adopting two dogs, have a look at KJ, too!
