Meet Thelma

Our adoption application can be found at the bottom of this pet's bio. Once your application has been approved, we can arrange a meet and greet with you and Thelma.

Thelma is currently in a foster home in Portland, OR and is eligible for meet and greets! Although Thelma is in Portland, her current family is willing to travel if it means finding her the perfect home.

Meet Thelma!

Thelma is a 4 year old female, pitbull terrier mix. Thelma is fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and ready to find her forever family! Thelma currently weighs 55 pounds.

Thelma was part of a bonded pair that was adopted from Texas. Thelma and her sister, Louise, were found wandering the streets as strays and taken in by a good Samaritan. Initially, the two seemed comforted by the other's presence, but as time went on (and as siblings would have it) they seemed to be more annoyed or bothered by the other's presence. The current family is looking to rehome either Thelma or Louise (but not both of them). The current family loves them both so much and raves about how amazing dogs they are and they could not choose which dog to rehome. We have posted them both in hopes of finding just one of them a new family.

Thelma would prefer to be the only dog in your life. She is able to see dogs pass by on walks and is totally fine, but she prefers to have all of your attention in the home. We would describe Thelma's energy level as being moderate. She loves to play, chase balls in the yard and play with her toys! She LOVES going for walks and would make for a great running partner. Don't let this fool you though, she's an excellent nap taker! She loves snoozing on the couch or comfy chairs in the living room. She sleeps in bed with one of our kids at night time and sleeps all through the night without making a peep.

Thelma is not cat friendly and would prefer a home without cats.

Thelma is kid friendly! When Thelma arrived at her current home, the human kids were 6 & 8 years of age. Thelma sleeps in one of the kids beds every night or will happily sleep on the floor or the foot of the bed if the kids have a friend sleeping over. Thelma is a great co-sleeper! She makes herself compact and will curl in a little ball at the end of the bed.

Thelma walks great on a leash! She does get excited for walks and pulls (just slightly). Thelma has a pretty good "heel" command. We use a gentle leader just to prevent her from getting excited when she sees cats and squirrels.

Thelma is fully potty trained and is always sure to potty outside. She will also let you know if she needs to go outside. Thelma currently does well when left to free roam, but is also crate trained!

Thelma's ideal home would have a yard for her to run around and play in OR they would be an active family and take her out on adventures with them.

Here's a small blurb about Thelma from her foster mom:
Thelma is a goofball. She's silly and always up for a play session if you are. She loves wrestling and a good game of tug-o-war. She would love a yard as she enjoys running zoomies every now and then. She curls up in the smallest ball when it's time for bed, making her an ideal bed-sharer. She loves belly rubs and will flop over on her back as you're walking by to try and convince you to give her one.

Thelma knows the commands "sit," "stay," "wait," and "shake." They know more words than we probably realize, but they know what a "walk" is, "going outside" or "going pee-pee," "dinner," and although they haven't learned to "come" when called, they do understand what "it's time to go inside" and a motion for them to come means.

Thelma is a little hesitant when people come over. She mostly just sticks to herself, but then warms up once she feels safe.
