PLEASE NOTE: Since Merida is a tripod, she's going to do best in a home with a minimal amount of stairs. She can handle a couple of steps to get into the house but she's not going to be able to go up/down a full flight of stairs.

Meet beautiful Miss Merida. This lovely girl was found as a stray, foraging on her own to get by each day. On top of living on the street she also had a broken leg and a raging infection. If those two issues weren't enough, she was pregnant, as well, and was ready to give birth at any time when we found her.

Anatolians are an ancient breed who, by design, are genetically hardwired to be a sturdy, robust dog who can withstand great hardships without human support. Merida is no exception, however, the odds were stacked a bit too high against her and neither she nor her babies would have survived without a helping hand.

Miss Merida had an emergency c-section to deliver her babies and a week later she underwent amputation of her front leg. Since she had been used to walking on just three legs as it was, she has adapted quite well following surgery.

Despite all of these obstacles, Merida remains a sweet, loving and gentle soul. She adores people and is a wonderful mom. Once her pups are old enough to be on their own, which will be mid May, 2024, Merida will be available for adoption.

We haven't evaluated her much with other dogs at this point because of her recovery period and also because she is still nursing puppies. The person who initially found Merida had a male dog on her property who Merida got along with so we feel she will likely be good either as an only dog or with a male dog.

Merida is potty trained and she walks well on leash. She thoroughly enjoys the company of people and will be happiest in a home where she is a part of the family. We havent tested her with cats or children yet.
